PROJECT DESCRIPTION —For 3daysofdesign 2026, Søuld joined forces with Sumum and Motarasu in COMPOSED MATTER, an exhibition curated and spatially designed by Norm Architects.
Presented at Esplanaden in Copenhagen, the exhibition explored how materials, light and form interact to shape atmosphere, perception and sensory experience. Rather than presenting individual objects and materials in isolation, COMPOSED MATTER approached design as a spatial composition — where tactility, reflection, absorption and rhythm become active elements in the experience of a room.
At the centre of the exhibition was a shared dedication to materiality. Eelgrass, light and crafted surfaces were presented not merely as functional components, but as carriers of texture, atmosphere and meaning. Through a series of carefully composed installations, visitors were invited to slow down and experience how subtle material qualities can influence the emotional character of a space.
Throughout the exhibition, Søuld's eelgrass acoustic panels formed an integral part of the spatial narrative. The natural variations, tactile surface and sound-absorbing properties of the material contributed both visually and acoustically, creating a calm and balanced environment in dialogue with light, textiles and crafted objects.
Curated by Norm Architects, the exhibition unfolded through a sequence of spaces defined by soft geometries, changing light conditions and carefully considered material transitions. Surfaces responded to illumination, revealing depth and texture, while moments of openness and enclosure created shifting sensory experiences throughout the exhibition.
Custom artworks by Sara Martinsen and Amanda Betz, together with design contributions from Signe Hytte and Isabelle Yamamoto, further extended the exploration of materiality. Textiles by Dedar and finishing details by Fischer Gardiner added additional layers of tactility and atmosphere.
The result was an immersive exhibition where architecture, materiality and sensory experience came together — demonstrating how thoughtfully composed materials can shape the way a space is perceived, experienced and remembered.
