STOA
By Signe Hytte

PROJECT DESCRIPTION — Created for COMPOSED MATTER during 3daysofdesign 2026, STOA is a collection of tables designed by Signe Hytte that explores the relationship between structure, materiality and rhythm.

Drawing inspiration from the classical Greek colonnade, each table is composed of a disciplined sequence of vertical elements that establish a clear architectural language. Repetition creates rhythm, while the carefully balanced proportions give the pieces a quiet sense of weight and presence.

Integrated Søuld eelgrass panels form the core of each design, paired with brushed aluminium surfaces. The contrast between the tactile, organic quality of the eelgrass and the refined precision of the metal creates a balanced material expression where softness and structure coexist.

The natural texture of the eelgrass introduces warmth and depth, while the aluminium reflects light and emphasises the architectural rhythm of the composition. The result is a collection that feels both grounded and contemporary — a study in material contrasts, craftsmanship and quiet grandeur.

The collection includes a coffee table, a square coffee table, a console table and a pedestal table. Together, the pieces investigate how simple geometric forms can create visual tempo and spatial character.
