PROJECT DESCRIPTION — Created by Danish artist duo Wang & Söderström, 27 Antennae was commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark for the EU Council’s Justus Lipsius Building in Brussels during the Danish Presidency 2025. The installation transforms the long aisle of the Council building into a poetic meditation on connectivity, perception, and responsibility.
Comprising twenty-seven sculptural antennae—one for each EU member state—the artwork interprets forms from European insect species, reimagined through digital sculpting and 3D printing in recycled plastic and wood fibers. Set against a backdrop of Søuld’s eelgrass acoustic panels, the vivid red antennae contrast the tactile, natural surfaces, evoking both urgency and balance between technology and ecology.
The eelgrass panels, made from locally collected, carbon-binding sea plants, bring warmth, texture, and acoustic calm to the institutional space while echoing Denmark’s coastal heritage. Together, the organic material and synthetic forms create a dialogue between tradition and innovation, matter and data, biology and diplomacy.
The project embodies a circular mindset: every element can be reused, repurposed, or recycled after the exhibition period, reinforcing a shared European responsibility for sustainable creation and exchange.
