PROJECT DESCRIPTION —The newly renovated breakout spaces at Roskilde University are designed to support contemporary learning and collaboration. Open and flexible in character, the spaces accommodate a constant flow of students while providing comfortable environments for study, discussion and knowledge-sharing.

A key ambition was to create spaces that feel light and airy while offering the warmth and acoustic comfort required in high-traffic educational settings. Søuld Acoustic Mats made from eelgrass are integrated throughout the interior, helping to create a balanced acoustic environment where multiple groups can work and exchange ideas simultaneously.

The combination of natural wood and eelgrass introduces warmth, tactility and material depth. Rhythmic wooden elements create structure and visual continuity, while the soft texture of the eelgrass panels adds a calming and inviting quality to the spaces.

Together, the materials establish an atmosphere that supports both focused work and informal interaction. The result is a series of welcoming learning environments where openness, flexibility and acoustic comfort exist in balance.
