WOODEN FRAMES — Designed as a sleek and effective acoustic solution, Wooden Frames feature integrated Søuld Acoustic Mats made from eelgrass, delivering the highest level of sound absorption – Acoustic Class A. The Wooden Frames are ideal for use in interiors such as offices, meeting rooms, hospitality spaces, and homes where both acoustic comfort and aesthetics are essential.

Rather than following traditional framing methods, the Wooden Frames feature upstanding oak profiles that create a subtle play of light and shadow, emphasizing the natural depth, texture and tactility of the eelgrass panel within. When mounted in series,  the design of the frame creates a continuous and defined shadow between the elements, ensuring a smooth and refined transition from panel to panel. 

The Wooden Frames are designed for disassembly, allowing for the design solution to easily be dismantled and repurposed in new interiors.

Sizes & Materials

Wooden Frames are available in two standard sizes: 500 × 1500 mm and 1000 × 1500 mm. The two formats can be used individually or combined across larger wall surfaces depending on the scale and character of the interior.

Each element consists of a solid oak frame with an integrated Søuld Acoustic Mat made from eelgrass. The contrast between the precise oak profiles and the soft, porous eelgrass surface gives the product its distinct material expression.

The oak frame is available in Oiled Oak or Smoked Oiled Oak, offering two different tonal qualities while retaining the natural grain and character of the wood. Together, oak and eelgrass create a tactile composition of natural materials designed to age with character over time.

Installation Patterns

Wooden Frames can be used as individual acoustic elements or installed in a series to create larger compositions across interior walls.

The raised oak profiles are designed to create a defined shadow between neighbouring elements. When multiple frames are installed together, this shadow continues from panel to panel, creating rhythm and visual continuity across the wall while allowing each element to remain clearly articulated.

The two standard sizes can be used to respond to different wall proportions and spatial requirements. A single frame can function as a focused acoustic element in a meeting room, home or smaller interior, while repeated elements can create a more architectural wall surface in larger hospitality, workplace or commercial settings.

MATERIAL HONESTY — Wooden Frames were developed around a simple idea: to give the soft, tactile surface of eelgrass a precise architectural structure without concealing the material itself.

Rather than enclosing the Acoustic Mat within a conventional frame, the oak profiles rise above the surface. This creates a subtle play of light and shadow around the eelgrass and emphasises its depth, texture and natural variation. The contrast between the precise geometry of the oak and the irregular fibres of the eelgrass gives the design its character.

When several Wooden Frames are installed together, the profile of the frame creates a continuous shadow between each element. This detail helps individual modules read as part of one larger composition, introducing rhythm and structure while maintaining a calm overall expression.

Material honesty is central to the design. The eelgrass remains fully visible, while the solid oak frame is expressed as both a functional and architectural component. There are no decorative layers added to disguise either material.
