Sustainability

Søuld’s sustainability features of our carbon-storing acoustic panels, EPD results and three Cradle to Cradle Certified®️ Gold certifications.

NATURALLY FROM NATURE — Sustainability at Søuld begins with a material shaped by nature. Collected along the Danish coast, eelgrass carries its own texture, colour and rhythm — qualities that continue into the spaces our acoustic panels become part of.

Our approach is grounded in long-term thinking: creating materials that store carbon, remain in circulation and contribute to healthy indoor environments. At the same time, we believe responsible production requires openness, careful documentation and respect for both ecosystems and people.

Key features

CARBON STORING — Søulds Acoustic Panels are made from eelgrass, a sea plant that naturally washes ashore during spring and autumn storms. During its growth, eelgrass binds large amounts of carbon and if left to decompose, it would release CO₂ back into the atmosphere. By storing this carbon in durable building materials, Søuld’s products serve as carbon storage.

Our certified EPD confirms there is more CO₂-eq bound in eelgrass than what is emitted during Søuld’s production of the final product (A1-A3).

CIRCULARITY — Søuld Acoustic Panels are designed to be fully circular. When panels reach end of use, they can be returned, processed and pressed into a new generation of Søuld products. The material remains in circulation.

Our Acoustic Panels have achieved Gold in C2C Certified®️ Circularity, version 4.1 and C2C Certified®️ Full Scope, version 4.1.

FULLY DOCUMENTED — The Cradle to Cradle Certified®️ Products Program is a comprehensive framework that evaluates material health, circularity, climate impact, water stewardship and social fairness, and today, only three companies globally have achieved three separate C2C Certified®️ Gold Version 4.1 certifications.

Søuld has achieved three Gold level certifications under Cradle to Cradle Certified®️ version 4.1, for C2C Certified®️ Full Scope, version 4.1, C2C Certified®️ Material Health, version 4.1 and C2C Certified®️ Circularity, version 4.1.

BIODIVERSITY — Søulds Acoustic Panels are made from eelgrass, gently collected along the Danish coast. To assess whether the collection of eelgrass has any negative impact on climate, biodiversity or the local environment, DHI has conducted a biodiversity analysis of Søuld’s activities.

The analysis shows that collection along the examined coastal stretches does not negatively affect the seabed or the natural distribution of eelgrass. No harmful effects on the ecological integrity of the areas, including birdlife and other species, have been identified.

SOCIAL FAIRNESS — Søuld is committed to responsible and respectful working conditions across our activities and partnerships. NATURAL HONESTY — Søuld’s Acoustic Panels are made from natural eelgrass fibres, shaped by nature and characterised by subtle variations in colour, texture and structure. Rather than striving for visual perfection, we embrace the honest expression of the material — including its natural patina and tactile qualities. These variations are an inherent part of working with natural materials and reflect the origin, authenticity and character of each panel.

3

TRANSPARENCY — Søuld is committed to conducting its business responsibly and with respect for both people and the environment. To support this commitment, we have established a set of guiding policies that provide the framework for our work within sustainability and ethical business practices. These include: Sustainability Policy, Code of Conduct and Whistleblower Policy.
