Sustainability
A natural product
Søuld’s acoustic panels are made from eelgrass gently collected along the Danish coast after it washes ashore. By removing the eelgrass from the shore, biomass producing climate-damaging greenhouse gases such as CO₂ and methane is removed. At the same time, the carbon captured during growth is stored within the material.
A third-party verified EPD confirms that more carbon is bound in Søuld Acoustic Panels than emitted during production (A1–A3). Søuld has achieved Cradle to Cradle Certified® Gold across Material Health, Circularity and Full Scope (version 4.1).
Built on a legacy
The history from Læsø
Søuld’s acoustic products are rooted in a 400-year-old Danish building tradition, where eelgrass was used to create durable, protective homes. On the island of Læsø, eelgrass washed ashore after storms and was gathered, dried and woven into roofing by local craftspeople. Naturally rich in salt, the material proved highly resistant to fire, moisture and decay—qualities that allowed these structures to last for centuries.
This knowledge has been carefully revisited and refined. Today, Søuld translates this heritage into contemporary acoustic solutions, bringing an abundant natural material into modern architecture.
Biodiversity
A natural product
Biodiversity is central to how we work with eelgrass. By gently collecting eelgrass that naturally washes ashore along the Danish coastline before it decomposes, we reduce the amount of nutrients that would otherwise be released back into the sea.
Independent analysis confirms that our collection practices do not negatively affect local biodiversity or ecological integrity. By transforming the collected eelgrass into durable acoustic panels, we also extend the storage of the carbon by the plant bound during growth.
