We offer our materials in a range of standard sizes and thicknesses to fit various installation needs. We can also customize the sizes to fit your specific needs.

PANEL SIZES — Søuld Acoustic Panels are available in three standard sizes and a range of thicknesses, suitable for a wide variety of projects. For projects requiring specific dimensions or shapes, custom cutting is available.

Søuld Acoustic Panels are made using a natural material. Therefore, minor variations in the mats moisture content and dimensions may occur. Depending on the relative air humidity and temperature, the material expands and contracts continuously. Minor variations should be accepted as the products respond to changing indoor conditions throughout the seasons. It is important to follow Søuld’s instructions for product installation, storage and acclimatisation to achieve optimal results.

Custom
Søuld offers custom cutting services to meet project-specific requirements. A minimum order of 10 panels in the size 3000 × 1100 mm is required. Cutting is charged per full panel.

Custom shapes and sizes can be produced with high precision.

Cutting Mats and Boards

If you're considering using our materials for your project, you may be wondering about the cutting options available. Our products are made from natural eelgrass fibers and come in a variety of sizes and thicknesses to fit your needs. You can cut and proces the material as traditional building materials. Here is some further options and recommendations.

PROCESSING SØULD — If you have purchased our eelgrass acoustic material and want to process it for your project, there are several methods you can use, including:

Cutting with a circular saw
Eelgrass panels can be cut with a circular saw with good results. Use a fine-toothed blade and cut slowly and carefully to avoid damaging the material. Always wear appropriate safety gear. See the full cutting guide in the Installation Manual.

Stamping out
It is possible to use a stamping press or die-cut the panels for specific shapes or sizes. We recommend this method for creating multiple elements in identical shapes and sizes.

Cutting with waterjet
For precise and efficient cutting with minimal waste, waterjet cutting offers high accuracy and the possibility of creating complex shapes. See example with David Thulstrup

Creating bevels
Only applicable to Søuld Acoustic Boards FR
The rigidity of Acoustic Boards FR makes it possible to create beveled cuts. We recommend that beveled cuts are made by the client, to ensure that specific needs and preferences are met. Standard woodworking tools such as a circular saw can be used.

General advice
When processing and cutting Søuld Acoustic Panels, always follow the manufacturer instructions and safety precautions to ensure proper handling and processing of the material. Once processed, you can mount the eelgrass panels following Søuld’s Installation Instructions.

Natural colour variations

Søuld Acoustic Panels display natural variations in colour, texture and fibre distribution, reflecting the coastal origin and journey of the eelgrass. Shaped by the changing conditions of the sea, the seasons and the plant's natural lifecycle, each panel carries its own unique expression in a palette of muted greens and warm browns. Together, these subtle differences create an authentic material expression that cannot be replicated. They are an inherent quality of working with a natural, carbon-storing building material.

COLORS — Every Søuld panel is made from eelgrass that has naturally washed ashore. As a natural material, no two panels are identical. Subtle variations in colour, fibre distribution and texture are an inherent quality of the material, reflecting its origin and reinforcing its honest expression. Occasionally, small feathers may also appear within the panels—a natural reminder of the coastal environment from which the eelgrass originates.

The appearance of the eelgrass is influenced by a range of natural factors. The amount of time the eelgrass has drifted before reaching the shoreline, seasonal growth cycles, the drying process and geographical location all contribute to its final expression. Eelgrass collected during winter typically consists of shorter, finer fibres, while summer collections often contain longer and broader leaves. Even along the same stretch of coastline, colour, texture and fibre structure can vary significantly.

Rather than concealing these natural differences, we preserve them. They are part of what makes eelgrass a beautiful and honest material, allowing every panel to carry part of the story of the sea it came from.

To ensure a consistent appearance across larger installations, project deliveries are supplied from carefully matched production batches. Every sample and every panel is marked with a batch number, allowing future deliveries to be coordinated accordingly.



Colouring mats and boards

By dyeing your Søuld Acoustic Boards with natural pigments or linseed oil, you can customize the color and appearance of your installation while still maintaining the natural and sustainable properties of our materials. 

COLORS — Søuld does not offer coloured Acoustic Panels. Any colouring is carried out as a post-process by the client after purchase. Søuld Acoustic Boards can be treated with natural pigments or linseed oil to adjust the colour and visual expression of the surface. This allows for a more tailored integration into a specific interior while maintaining the material’s natural character.

The eelgrass fibres are naturally absorbent, making the material well-suited for dyeing. We recommend testing the treatment on a small sample before applying it to the full surface, as the final appearance may vary.

Please note that applying pigments or oil will affect the fire classification, as all certifications are based on the untreated material.

Mounting & Recycling

Søuld Acoustic Panels made from eelgrass are high-quality solutions that are easy to install. The panels are lightweight and can be glued directly onto ceilings or walls, making installation simple, efficient and flexible.

ACOUSTIC PANELS — Designed to provide effective sound absorption, Søuld Acoustic Panels can be easily cut to fit a wide range of spaces and shapes. This makes them a versatile solution across different project types.
Installation is straightforward. Panels can be mounted using glue alone or in combination with screws, depending on the application. The process is simple and does not require heavy tools, helping to reduce installation time and labour costs.
